The Imo State Judicial Service Commission was established pursuant to Chapter VI Section 197 (I) (C) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria ( as amended).
Part II of the Third Schedule of the Constitution sets out it's composition, functions and powers which are similar in scope and nature with those of other Commissions. By virtue of Section 202 which established the independence of the Judicial Service Commission and Section 204 of the 1999 Constitution, the State Judicial Service Commission may make its own regulations.
The Commission has seven (7) members and a Secretary. Three (3) Statutory members who are; the Chief Judge of Imo State, who is also the Chairman of the Commission, The Hon. the Attorney General of Imo State and the President of the Customary Court of Appeal. The other 4 members were appointed by the Governor of Imo State.
